Importing is the fastest way to load a full catalogue, and the usual way to move from another POS. It is free on every plan.
Steps
- Products → Import products → Download template.
- Fill one row per product: name, unit, category, SKU, barcode, tax, purchase price, selling price, opening stock and location.
- Save as CSV or XLSX. Keep the column order exactly as in the template.
- Upload the file. SmartPOS checks every row and lists errors with row numbers before anything is saved.
- Fix the rows it flags and upload again. Only a clean file is imported.
Moving from another POS
Most systems (Square, Clover, Lightspeed, Shopify and others) export products to CSV. Open their export, copy the columns into our template, and import. See switching for customers and stock.
Tips
- Import 20 rows first to check your columns, then the rest.
- Barcodes with leading zeros: format the column as text in Excel so the zeros are kept.
- Large files: split into files of about 2,000 rows each.
- Variants (sizes, colours) have their own columns in the template; see variations.
Help with it
On the bundle or any annual plan, managed migration is free: send us your export and we import it for you.
